Der britische Schauspieler Michael Pennington ist im Alter von 82 Jahren verstorben. Er zählte zu den bedeutendsten Shakespeare-Interpreten. Eine andere Rolle machte ihn jedoch berühmt. Es war eine seiner kleinsten Sprechrollen: In dem Film „Star Wars: Episode VI – Die Rückkehr der Jedi-Ritter” spielte er den Todessternkommandanten Moff Jerjerrod. Mit dieser Rolle erlangte er unter Filmfans Kultstatus. Pennington war vor allem am Theater aktiv und übernahm tragende Rollen in zahlreichen Shakespeare-Dramen wie Hamlet, Richard II., Romeo und Julia, Macbeth und König Lear. Neben seinem Engagement am Theater spielte der Brite in mehr als 70 Filmen mit, darunter auch in „Die eiserne Lady”.
The British actor Michael Pennington has died at the age of 82. He was one of the most distinguished performers of Shakespeare’s plays. However, it was a different role that made him famous. It was one of his smallest speaking parts: in the film “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi”, he played the Death Star commander Moff Jerjerrod. This role earned him cult status among film fans. Pennington was primarily active in the theatre and took on leading roles in numerous Shakespearean plays such as Hamlet, Richard II, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and King Lear. In addition to his work in the theatre, the British actor appeared in more than 70 films, including “The Iron Lady”.
