Dietmar Schott

Nach langer Krankheit ist der ehemalige Sportchef, Reporter und Moderator des WDR, Dietmar Schott, im Alter von 88 Jahren verstorben. Das gab der WDR bekannt. Er arbeitete 40 Jahre lang für den WDR, und zwar von 1962 bis 2002. Bekannt wurde er unter anderem als Moderator der Radiosendung "Sport und Musik". Ein zentrales Element dieser Sendung war die ARD-Bundesliga-Schaltkonferenz. Zudem wurde er als Pferdesport- und Basketball-Kenner geschätzt. Er berichtete nicht nur 32-mal vom bedeutendsten Trabrennen der Welt, dem "Prix d'Amerique", sondern auch 25-mal vom Deutschen Derby und von elf Olympischen Spielen. Im Jahr 1988 übernahm er die Position des Sportchefs beim WDR und ging 2002 in den Ruhestand. Im Hörfunk moderierte er mehr als 2.000 Sendungen und war fast fünf Jahre lang im WDR Fernsehen zu sehen.
Dietmar Schott, the former head of sport, reporter and presenter at WDR, has died at the age of 88 following a long illness. This was announced by WDR. He worked for WDR for 40 years, from 1962 to 2002. He became well known, among other things, as the presenter of the radio programme ‘Sport und Musik’. A central feature of this programme was the ARD Bundesliga live link-up. He was also highly regarded as an expert on equestrian sports and basketball. He reported not only 32 times on the world’s most prestigious trotting race, the “Prix d’Amérique”, but also 25 times on the German Derby and from eleven Olympic Games. In 1988, he took up the position of Head of Sport at WDR and retired in 2002. He presented more than 2,000 radio programmes and appeared on WDR television for almost five years.
