The “Voice of Bollywood”, singer Asha Bhosle, has died at the age of 92. The Indian singer died in Mumbai after being admitted to hospital following a heart attack. Her death marks the end of an era in Bollywood music. Bhosle was revered as the “Voice of Bollywood” and is regarded as the queen of Indian playback singing. She provided the songs to which the actors lip-synned. Her successful career spanned more than eight decades. She provided the music for more than 1,000 films and sang over 12,000 songs. She collaborated with national stars such as OP Nayyar, Burman and SD Burman, and recorded duets with Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey. She also worked with international artists such as Boy George and Michael Stipe.
