Rob Base, dessen Song „It Takes Two” eine ganze Generation prägte, ist im Alter von 59 Jahren nach einem Kampf gegen den Krebs im Kreise seiner Familie verstorben. Er begann seine Karriere im Duo mit DJ EZ Rock. Der gemeinsame Durchbruch gelang ihnen 1988 mit der Single „It Takes Two“, die Platz drei der Billboard Dance Club Songs Charts erreichte. Die Nachfolgesingle „Get on the Dance Floor“ erreichte Platz eins der Billboard Dance Club Songs Charts und Platz elf der Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Charts. 1989 folgte Rob Bases Solodebüt „The Incredible Base“, das auf Platz 20 der Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Charts einstieg. 1994 taten sich Base und DJ EZ Rock noch einmal zusammen, um das Album "Break of Dawn" zu veröffentlichen. Trotz seiner Erkrankung war Rob Base zuletzt noch aktiv im Musikgeschäft. Er war Teil der „I Love the '90s Tour“, bei der eine Reihe von Künstlern jener Ära auf der Bühne stand, darunter Vanilla Ice, All 4 One, Color Me Badd und Tone Loc.
Rob Base, whose song “It Takes Two” defined an entire generation, has died at the age of 59, surrounded by his family, following a battle with cancer. He began his career as part of a duo with DJ EZ Rock. They achieved their breakthrough in 1988 with the single “It Takes Two”, which reached number three in the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. The follow-up single “Get on the Dance Floor” reached number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart and number eleven on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. This was followed in 1989 by Rob Base’s solo debut “The Incredible Base”, which entered the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at number 20. In 1994, Base and DJ EZ Rock teamed up once again to release the album ‘Break of Dawn’. Despite his illness, Rob Base remained active in the music business until recently. He was part of the ‘I Love the '90s Tour’, which featured a line-up of artists from that era, including Vanilla Ice, All 4 One, Color Me Badd and Tone Loc.
