Er spielte oft den Bösewicht, aber auch Polizisten, Ärzte und Bischöfe. Er porträtierte sogar Bundeskanzler Helmut Kohl. Noch während seiner Ausbildung wurde er vom Deutschen Schauspielhaus Hamburg engagiert. Dies war der Beginn seiner Karriere, die ihn von Bochum nach Köln und dann nach München führte. Seine Paraderolle auf der Bühne gilt als die des „Theatermachers“. 2005 spielte er Helmut Kohl in der TV-Doku „Deutschlandspiel“. Außerdem trat er in der Serie „Der Bergdoktor“ auf und hatte Gastrollen in „Der Alte“, „Tatort“ und „Pfarrer Braun“. 2019 stand er für „And dead are you!“ vor der Kamera. Ein Schwarzwald-Krimi (Und du bist tot! Ein Schwarzwald-Krimi).
