Als die Einsatzkräfte eintrafen, stand das Gebäude bereits vollständig in Flammen. Pierce hatte zuletzt zehn Saisons lang für den Webauftritt der NHL gearbeitet und auf nhl.com regelmäßig über die Spiele der Minnesota Wild berichtet. Zuvor war sie für das Sportmagazin „The Athletic” tätig und moderierte den Podcast „Bardown Beauties”.
As the ice hockey league confirmed in an official statement, the 37-year-old died in a house fire in the US state of Minnesota. According to the statement, the sports journalist died alongside her three children. Neighbours had seen flames shooting out of the roof of the house. By the time the emergency services arrived, the building was already fully ablaze. Pierce had most recently worked for the NHL’s website for ten seasons and regularly reported on Minnesota Wild matches on nhl.com. Prior to that, she worked for the sports magazine “The Athletic” and hosted the podcast “Bardown Beauties”.
