Der irische Schauspieler Gary Lydon ist im Alter von 61 Jahren unerwartet verstorben. Über die genauen Todesumstände wurde nichts bekannt gegeben. Erst vor drei Jahren hatte er im neunfach Oscar-nominierten Drama „The Banshees of Inisherin“ mitgewirkt. Seinen Durchbruch feierte er Mitte der 1980er Jahre mit der Wexford-Trilogie auf der Theaterbühne. Im irischen Fernsehen machte er sich durch die Krankenhausserie „The Clinic“ einen Namen, in der er von 2003 bis 2009 die Rolle des Patrick Murray verkörperte. Für diese Darstellung erhielt er zwei Irish Film and Television Awards als bester Nebendarsteller. Auf der großen Leinwand wirkte er in drei Filmen mit, die für den Oscar als Bester Film nominiert wurden: „War Horse“, das Auswanderer-Epos „Brooklyn“ und „The Banshees of Inisherin“. Zudem übernahm er in den Filmen „The Guard“ und „Calvary“ jeweils die Rolle des Inspektors Gerry Stanton. Zuletzt war er im Jahr 2025 im Channel-4-Drama „Trespasses“ zu sehen. Zwei noch unveröffentlichte Produktionen mit Lydon stehen noch bevor: Erst vor wenigen Wochen hatte er von den abgedrehten Werken „The Sandy Banks“ und „One Sweet Hour“ erzählt.
Irish actor Gary Lydon has died unexpectedly at the age of 61. No details have been released regarding the exact circumstances of his death. Just three years ago, he appeared in the nine-time Oscar-nominated drama *The Banshees of Inisherin*. He made his breakthrough in the mid-1980s with the Wexford Trilogy on the theatre stage. He made a name for himself on Irish television in the hospital drama “The Clinic”, in which he played the role of Patrick Murray from 2003 to 2009. For this performance, he received two Irish Film and Television Awards for Best Supporting Actor. On the big screen, he appeared in three films nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture: “War Horse”, the emigration epic “Brooklyn” and “The Banshees of Inisherin”. He also played the role of Inspector Gerry Stanton in the films “The Guard” and “Calvary”. He was last seen in 2025 in the Channel 4 drama “Trespasses”.
